What Does the Future Holds? by Ngozi Kalu Ade-Ijimakinwa

Wow! The National election has come and gone. Yesterday was inauguration and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has been sworn in. so are other elected executives. But one question remain unanswered in the mind of the youths: “what does the future holds for the Nigerian youths?”

The Nigerian youths are questing for permanent positive change. They consciously want to shape their destinies by being part of the last election. They came out in mass to vote for change, to vote for the right leaders, leaders who they believed will bring the change they have been waiting for.

Majority of them did not give in to manipulation. They stood against been used as political thugs. They put to practice the truth they have learnt—the right to vote right.

It was this truth that Solomon’s Porch, a social youth initiative preached to the youths at the Indoor Sport Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere Lagos. It was a special program tagged One Man One Vote.

As the Chair person of the special program, One Man One Vote, me and the organizing team worked tirelessly for four weeks for the success of the program. We were on radio, television and several newspapers. And on the special Saturday, 26th of March 2011, we succeeded in bringing together over two thousand youths from around Lagos. Inspirational leaders like Ibukun Awosika and others educated the youths on the benefits of voting their conscience. The program was also spiced up with artistes like Rooftop Mcs and Emeka Smith.
