Bowling 4 Boobs by Ngozi Kalu

Exactly two years ago, my friend Chiaka came to me and asked that we go for cancer screening, with the expression on her face, fearing that she might be ill, I asked why she needed us to go through it so badly, her reasons were that there have been too many warning on media about how early dictation of cancer makes all the difference.
At the screening centre we had to go through counseling and we were meant to understand the few causes of and breast cancer which was classified into three one: it’s hereditary. Two: high nicotine and Three: age can also make one venerable and for the cervical cancer it was mainly caused by having sex with multiple partners in which one can contact a virus called human papilloma virus (HPV) this virus can also cause infertility in both male and female.
At this point I felt all of this had nothing to do with me because as far as was concerned I wasn’t in any categories (but don’t get me wrong I went for the screening anyway lol ) and I was given a certificate) but was advised to do a regular check up at least once a year, I haven’t gone again because like I said or rather as I thought it had nothing to do me but I was wrong, On the 29th of January my perspective changed.
I went to Abuja with some celebrities for charity concert Tagged: BOWLING 4 BOOBS, it was a concert to raise funds for some cancer patients organized by Stand Up to Cancer Naija Foundation which was held at the Doom Entertainment Center and I tell you it was an evening of mad fun and laughter , it was a bowling concert, where people paid to watch celebrities  bowl and its was a competitive bowling between four groups, each group was made up of Ten members: TeamUti (Uti Nwachukwu: the winner of the last Big Brother Africa Show) TeamINI( Ini Edo Ehiegbena, A Nollywood Top Actress) Nigerian Film and censors board Team and then  TeamUJ( Uche Jombo, A Nollywood Top Actress)  which was the team I belong and of cause we won we also had Brian Okwara, Eku Edewor, my very close Friend Utee was also there and other celebrities  then in the mist of all that mad fun, the moment of truth finally  came where we had a breast cancer survivor Ada shared her story ,she encourage women and men alike to always examine themselves for possible traces of Lump that could be the early signs of the disease   I must tell you it was a touching one, according to her she was feeling the way I felt two years ago because to her it wasn’t her bit to have cancer, she was young but she woke one morning and found a lump in her breast and to God be the glory she went abroad and got it removed because she detected it on time and she said even people who were younger than her had had cancer.
So like my friend Chiaka and the media we all had at one time heard say early detection makes all the difference, screening is absolutely free all over the nation. Some of us think it’s not meant for us, my question is who is Cancer meant for then? Not me not you, that’s only if we stay at alert and stop living in denial and do what we have been advised to do..
